The coastal waters off Citrus County
are some of the most unspoiled flats the state of
Florida has to offer. Year round the
gulf coast around Crystal River and
Homosassa hold large schools of
redfish, flats covered with speckled
trout, and giant tarpon during
their migration. Gin clear, mangrove-lined back country
creeks and bay are a joy to sight fish with fly
and light tackle spinning gear. Cruise the
flats in search of world record class tarpon
from April into July using fly tackle on clear calm days
and casting plugs and jigs in deep water passes during
low light hours and on breezy afternoons.
While
the west coast of Florida is well known
for its world-class flats fishing, we
also have some of the very best Large Mouth Bass
fishing in the state right here! The famous
Withlacoochee River empties into the
Gulf of Mexico right on top of us and,
just before doing so, forms Lake Rousseau,
a stump-littered large mouth bass
heaven. While casting artificials around the stumps
produces some great bass, the true monsters are caught
by fishing wild shiners along the depths of the old
river channel and under the floating weed mats. Year
round my clients harvest bass above the trophy
10 pound range, with many fish weighing into
the teens, make for a truly world-class monster bass
fishery.
The 20' long Micro Draft Skiff is the
only way to enjoy the flats and a very wide and stable
fishing platform enabling you to get close to your
target fish. Come fish the flats off Homosassa
and the surrounding Gulf Coast waters
of Florida with Captain Billy
Henderson.
There are plenty of fish in these waters and what you
can expect to see are:
